Author Jillian Lauren Injured in Shooting Incident with LA Police

Los Angeles police have shared footage of a tense confrontation where author Jillian Lauren, wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, was shot during an incident in the Eagle Rock area earlier this month.

Lauren, 51, was injured but is expected to recover after the April 8 encounter. The incident took place as LAPD officers and California Highway Patrol were searching for three individuals who had fled a nearby car crash. Lauren, identified as Jillian Lauren Shriner, was arrested on charges of attempted murder but was later released on a $1 million bond. She is due in court on April 30.

The LAPD released body camera footage, backyard surveillance, and 911 dispatch audio related to the shooting. In the video, officers can be heard warning Lauren to drop her weapon, with one officer shouting over the sound of a helicopter: “Ma’am, we’re trying to help you. Put the gun down. You’re going to get shot. It’s the police.”

Soon after, the sound of at least six gunshots is heard. The footage also shows Lauren, barefoot and holding a pistol, leaving her home. Another clip captures her raising the weapon before she retreats after dirt kicks up near her feet. In later bodycam footage, Lauren is seen on the ground, with officers handcuffing her and noting a wound on her arm.

Jillian Lauren is known for her memoirs Some Girls: My Life in a Harem (2010) and Everything You Ever Wanted (2015). Her husband, Scott Shriner, became part of Weezer, the popular band known for their 1994 Blue Album, in the early 2000s.
